About Merrimack

Merrimack is a balanced calendar elementary school in the Buckroe Beach community.  The school is just miles away from the beautiful waters and rolling waves of the Chesapeake Bay.  The Buckroe Beach community has improved in the past several years, and with the introduction of the City of Hampton's Buckroe Master Plan, many more changes are on the horizon.
As with any thriving community, Merrimack has been part of the growth and changes through those years.  Most recently we have seen academic growth in our students as measured by formal assessments such as the Virginia Standards of Learning(SOL) test.  Merrimack was successfully accredited during the school years of 2005-2006, 2006-2007, 2007-2008, 2008-2009, 2009-2010 and 2010, 2011 school years. It also achieved Annual Yearly Progress in the school years of 2005-2006, 2006-2007, 2007-2008, 2008-2009, and 2009-2010.  For more information regarding the SOLs, please visit the Virginia Department of Education website:
It is with this knowledge and more importantly, student growth, that we have maintained consistency in our bottom line philosophy - that all students can learn and develop into lifelong learners.  We have never strayed from that commitment and have always strived to provide each student with the newest approaches in eduction to accomplish just that!  We are commited to providing our students with an education that not only prepares them for the world of education but also for their lives and the society as a whole. We believe that in order to help student begin the process of becoming life long learners we must begin with a foundation.  Our philosophy for building this foundation incorporates the FISH! Philosophy into our everyday learning.
